iBook PPC G4, , MS Office 2008 v. 12.0.0

I have installed the new MS updater but can not get the MicroSoft
update to install because of -error 1409. This might be a Mac thing
and not have anything to do with MS Office, any ideas. Have checked
the archieves and haven't found anything helpful. Ran Disc Utility,
Compacted/repaired the Data base, ran Tech Tool and still can't
update.

I have installed the new MS updater but can not get the MicroSoft
update to install because of -error 1409.

Please let us know if you continue to have problems after trying the fixes
below:

This is one error we do not have on the Error Page.
<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/error/page.html>

A Google search found this:

the -1409, /* Named fork does not exist */ error I think means that some
part of the OS is damaged or missing, (assuming that the HD directories &
such aren't messed up), so I'd try reinstalling the last big combo update...

Note: if the combo updater does not fix it, you will need to do an "Archive
& Install". See directions at the end.

Download the combo updater from Apple and run it again rather than using
Software Update. Doing so overwrites potentially problem-causing files.
Combo updaters will install on the same version as they¹re applying‹no need
to roll back or do a clean install.

Leopard:

Mac OS X 10.5.2 Combo Update (This update delivers several improvements for
both PowerPC- and Intel-based Macs )

Tiger:

Mac OS X 10.4.11 Combo Update (PPC)

and not have anything to do with MS Office, any ideas. Have checked

Follow the directions in "New installer for 12.0.1", but be sure to apply
the latest Apple combo updater first.

This should also update the AutoUpdater (MAU). If you do not get the option
to do this after first installing Office, see

======================

"Archive and Install" moves existing system files to a folder named Previous
System and then installs Mac OS X again.

Just be sure to check Preserve Users and Network Settings when you select
Archive & Install.

Diane,

I did try the combo updater and got the same error messege -1409.
Haven't tried the archieve and install yet to see if the -1409 occurs
there. MS Office 2008 is working fine, only the update is causing
problems, it actually says there is a Macintosh Sytem errors.
Probably the next update will take care of it. Maybe. I'm starting
to think it might be the new Adobe Reader that I just downloaded.

System errors will most likely not be fixed by an update. You need to do an
"Archive & Install".
