Error 1501 server issues with Entourage

Can anyone let us know what is going on with the hotmail servers and what we
can expect as far as a resolution?? Why would Microsoft cut out it's own
products?? Isn't hotmail part of the whole MSN deal?

There are posts on the old news server, but they suggested a thread on this
one to get more help.

Please help!!

Thanks.

What is going on? Microsoft is no longer allowing non-paying Hotmail users
to access Hotmail using WebDAV email clients.

The official explanation -- which is entirely valid -- is that spammers
would use tools like Outlook to send out mass mailings through Hotmail.
Because you can use your own software, you can automate abusive mailings.
It's harder to do that through a web browser.

There may also be some financial motive, although a Hotmail subscription is
quite cheap.

Personally I'd love to see something worked out to where Microsoft's
commercial email packages (Outlook, Entourage) come with a free premium
Hotmail membership, since you already paid for the software. I will be
sending feedback to Microsoft on that note, and anyone else should who
agrees.

It's only cut out for me this afternoon, but it is frustrating me
already.

I've filled out the Contact Us form in Hotmail and given them my
feedback, any other suggestions as to who (perhaps e-mail) I should
contact.

(Like others this was my sole reason for getting Entourage and it
worked no better than Apple Mail + HTTPMail plugin anyway :()

I like your idea, but I don't think it would happen, something like
'your first 3 months extra storage free' would be nice.

The MSNBC article at http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6126905/ mentions
that "(Yahoo email service) allows its users to access their mail with
external e-mail programs via so-called POP3 protocol."

However, IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE that Yahoo's FREE email service does
NOT work with Entourage (last time I checked over a year ago)--Yahoo
doesn't allow access via Entourage.

I wonder about Yahoo's PAID email service and Entourage access?

For me, I'm only interested in FREE email service that works with
Entourage.
(I already have paid ISP and email service via Earthlink.)

If Hotmail's free accounts no longer work with Entourage, then I will
move somewhere else. Where, I don't know?

Sounds like Hotmail's paid accounts aren't working also (from the
online buzz)?
