When accessing pop accounts like mac.com and others, the receive email aborts and produces an error. Some mail gets received, but other email gets left on the server (or worse, deleted)

I'm not aware of any error codes in Entourage that go nearly that high.
This could be a message returned to Entourage from your E-mail service
provider.

A quick search of Google shows that error code to be associated with a
few different products, which leads me to believe this is a Mac OS X
system error. Possibly disk related.

Use Apple's Disk Utility found in /Applications/Utilities to verify your
hard drive and run any other disk utility you have such as DiskWarrior
or Techtool Deluxe (free if you are currently under Apple's extended
warranty).
