Error -17599 and Hotmail

Hi Y'all;

I have been unable to use Entourage for Hotmail accounts...which seems like a
common (and very ironic, given that both are Microsoft products) problem. I
get a unique error, #-17599

Could not retrieve mail from the account "[name]"

Expected data from the Hotmail server is missing.

I've tried the Microsoft website, upgrading all of my Office X components (to
10.1.5, or whatever the 10.1.5 updater leaves them at), and trying to fiddle
with various settings...to no avail. Is this a "feature" of the new MSN X for
Mac OS X? Am I going to have to drop $80 every three months to lease
MSN X software to use my "free" hotmail account? Lovely to have bought
Entourage...and to find it useless for its primary mission on my computer,
namely, to download emails from Hotmail to my hard disk.

Is there any way to download Hotmail emails _without_ 1) cutting and pasting
them individually into Word docs, or 2) forwarding them all to a POP or IMAP
account that I _can_ get access to?

Sorry about the bitter tinge to this...hope someone can suggest something.

Thanks in advance,

Richard

Sorry, y'all, for posting essentially a duplicate message to this board
again...thought my last one had fallen through. The "...KICKS ASS"
message that follows was in a final fit of pique after discovering that
literally no Microsoft email product for the Mac (Outlook Express 5.0.x,
Entourage 2001, Entourage X) is currently capable of accessing my
email account. Apologies if I'm wasting too much bandwidth, but it
does seem to be a problem with Microsoft that is very obvious,
annoying, and should be entirely preventable (prevented)...and fixed.
It's like Apple writing an OS that doesn't run on...Apple computers.

See here's the thing... they issue these "outlook express"
updates for entourage, i downloaded them last summer from
a url given to me by a microsoft tech support guy. Now
since i have reformatted my mac, i can't find the updates.
I finally found the links from the microsoft support
website, but they are ALL dead links. And as for asking
microsoft themselves, forget it, they want to CHARGE A FEE
FOR ASKING A QUESTION ABOUT THEIR PRODUCT I HAVE ALREADY
PURCHASED. Seems a bit ridiculous, i didn't think your
topic was unnecessary or angsty, i have been TRYING to get
microsoft to help me with this since march 2003. no luck
yet.

I changed my email to a service that offers free POP
email. If you found a better solution using a hotmail
account, please share... i'd rather use a hotmail account
because i can http login when i'm away from home.

Goodluck to you!

Kevin (& y'all);

First, here's the page for updates...

http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.aspx

and the links work. I upgraded Entourage X using the updaters (from
10.1.2 on up), and just downloaded the new Outlook Express.

I got -17599 errors from every program (OE, Entourage 2001 & X) despite
the upgrades...but today everything works. Since I had trouble getting on
Hotmail from the Web while I was getting the -17599 errors, I assume that
-17599 = too busy. Would have been nice to have something less cryptic
than "expected data from Hotmail missing", which made me think that I
needed to upgrade...but now it works.

Problem solved.

I'm still unable to access Hotmail, and haven't for at least two weeks
using Entourage 10.1.4 on a cable modem. Keeps telling me that my
user name or password is wrong and asks if I want to renenter them. I
always click, "no". Same user name and password work fine through
Safari, though.
