Error -19666 "Invalid Message Number"

B

Bill Weylock

The explanation says only ³The message could not be moved.²

I get this error several times a day and have been unable to determine which
of my several pop accounts it relates to or what can be cone to elmininate
it.

I have narrowed it to one of three accounts, but I cannot reproduce the
error message reliably by checking the server for any of them (by enabling
Online Access).

Ideas?

I have, by the way, gone so far as to delete every message on the server for
each account. Figured that would do it. It didn¹t.

Hi Bill,

I¹m wondering if you have narrowed down if this only occurs with one of the
accounts. If so, which one? Also, determining what is actually going on
prior to error being displayed would be a clue as to what is happening.

You can install tcpflow:
http://www.entourage.mvps.org/troubleshoot/tcpflow.html to monitor the tcp
traffic prior to the error occurring.

Thanks!

Confuses me completely. Here is what I do know...

It occurs after checking mail on three mailboxes (which are checked in
combination by one of the Schedule scripts). I seems to happen every time
that schedule is run.

Just now, after reading your message, I manually ran the schedule and did
get the error message.

Trying to isolate it. I wrote a Check Message schedule script for each of
the three mailboxes and ran each separately. I got no error message. Then I
ran the combined schedule again, and again got no error message.

I¹ve installed the tcpflow package, but Terminal tells me the program is
unknown. Do I have to restart in order to be able to run an installed line
command program?

Sigh....

Thanks for the attention. This has become increasingly annoying, and of
course once I focus on it, I want to solve it.

I was able to narrow the error message to one account.

As I say in the other message, I¹m willing to try using tcpflow, but I don¹t
know how.

I have several times selected all messages in that mailbox (on my hosting
server) and deleted them. Not sure what else to try.

Thanks.

Hi Bill,

So this is definitely happening without checking the accounts at the same
time and without using a schedule?

If so, could you send me screen shots of this accounts prefs and let me know
what server this is?

Sorry you are having trouble,
Michael

Michael -

Thanks very much for the attention. It really is annoying and is still
recurring.

Not sure how I gave you the idea it was happening without using a schedule.
I did set up a schedule to check individual accounts at staggered intervals
so I could see which account was generating the error message. That¹s how I
found out.

After the first time, though, I was unable to reproduce the problem. Then I
deactivated the individual account-check schedules and reactivated the
schedule that checks three accounts at once. Guess what? The problem came
back.

I¹m not sure that I should attach things to the group messages, so I will
try to send to your email address first.

Thanks again!

Sorry you are still having trouble. Try turning off the delete options for
the accounts for a day or so and see if you still get the error.

Done for the account I had identified earlier as the culprit and for the
other two (although I was tempted not to include them).

Of course I am wondering what we will do if the problem does go away; and I
am also wondering if I will ever remember to turn the delete option back on
before my mailbox explodes and gets spam all over the whole city block. :)

Really appreciate the help.

Hi Bill,

Is the error still occurring with the Delete options off? Also, what
service are you using?

Thanks,
Michael
