Error 3170 Please Help

Hi,

I am using POP3 with a yahoo account. I can receive messages fine, but can't
send any. I get error 3170 which tells me that the server can't be found.
Any idea what the problem might be?

Also, anyone know how to apply rules to messages already in the inbox? The
rules effect incoming messages, but not ones already received.

Please send only one query per message, you are far more likely to get an
answer!

The 'server not found' message would indicate that you have the incorrect
information entered in the SMTP server field for sending mail in the account
information. Double-check this, erase what is already there and typ it in
from fresh. Not sure what it should be in the USA, but in the UK we use
smtp.mail.yahoo.co.uk as the SMTP server and have to have authentication
turned on. Check on the yahoo web site for what your server should be set
to.

To apply rules to messages already received, select the messages and
right-click. The contextual menu will have an item for 'apply rules' (As
will the Message menu) and you get to select any one rule or all rules.

Select one message, then press command-A to select all. (Or, if you can
restrict yourself to a smaller subset which would be a lot faster,
shift-click the top message, then the bottom message of the subset to select
just those.) Then go to Message menu/Apply Rule/Apply That Rule . (You could
instead Apply All Rules but that would be much slower.)

I read on Broadband Reports recently that BellSouth has started blocking
outside communication on port 25. In that case, Justin, you should try
entering in the SMTP server settings provided by your ISP into the account
settings dialog (Tools -> Accounts). If the BellSouth SMTP server requires
authentication, click the "Advanced Sending Options" button, check the
option for "SMTP server requires authentication," check "Log on using," and
enter your BellSouth login details. You should then be able to send mail,
as if they're really blocking outgoing port 25 traffic they wouldn't prevent
you from sending from non @bellsouth.net addresses using their SMTP server.
