When I open the entourage the first message I get is this Error: -3253 it
says that it couldn't connect to my mail box but when I hit the send&receive
button its gonna ok no problem. But I'm pretty uncomfortable with the first
thing is an error whenever I open entourage. Is there anyway to solve this?

This error is not listed on the Error Page
<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/error/page.html>.

What kind of account is this? Exchange? If you see the errors that are close
in number it will give you a clue as to what is happening.

You can also test your network with tcpflow. See directions here:

This is a hotmail account. I always get it first thing I open the
entourage. It says your connection to server dropped down or something
similar like that, I keep erasing those messages because of anger. It is
very bothersome.

Sounds like the server is busy. If it bothers you that much I would drop the
account.

I don't think so because everytime it makes it. The server cant be busy
everytime I open the entourage. And you said "If it bothers you that much I
would drop the account." That's why I did buy Office2004; to do work. Not to
drop anything because it cant but it is supposed to..

Is Hotmail your main account? Entourage works great and I didn't mean to
offend you. Most Hotmail accounts are secondary accounts.

Try using tcpflow to monitor the traffic. You might see what is causing your
problems.

I've go a MacBook Pro and have got my Hotmail account going into Entourage -

Any help would be gratefully received!

We have many errors listed on the Error Page:

<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/error/page.html>

However, -3253 is not listed. Often errors close in number will have similar
solutions, but none are close. If you can give some more details on what is
causing the error, perhaps we can help with a solution.

I have experienced the same problem for weeks. Generally if I attempt to
send a message with a .jpg attachment from Entourage to MSN (hotmail) it
errors at 99% of the progress bar with the -3253 error. It's VERY easy to
reproduce. I'd be happy to provide a packet trace of the conversation if
you'd like.

BTW, I just renamed a .jpg file to .pdf and sent it just fine. This is NOT
a firewall issue as I manage the firewall as well, and put my machine into a
straight filter vice proxy rule and the problem is the same. The attachments
are not being stripped or filtered at the firewall.

Did MSN/Hotmail recently change to Exchange 2007 servers?
