I am using a Mac running Entourage X. I go to launch Entourage and it
asked to rebuild my database. Entourage tries to rebuild my database,
then gives me the error message 4356. Is there a way around this? How
can I rebuild my databse? My database is 1.6GB. Is that the problem?
Any help will help.
The 1.6gb isn't a problem. The initial release of Office vX had a 2gb limit,
but since SP1 the limit has been raised to 4gb.
I suspect that error 4356 is a problem with the database daemon. Go to
system prefs and in the login items pane, delete any entries for Database
daemon. Then, shutdown, and restart while holding down the shift key. Then
try a new rebuild.
If that doesn't work, take a look at a utility called entouraid (find it on
versiontracker). Some people have claimed success at recovering data from a
corrupted database using this utility.
