Error 5550 when trying to send e-mail

Hi,

I recently set up my two laptops at home to connect to the internet through
AirPort (both laptops use the older airport cards) and that is when I
started having problems with sending mail through Entourage.

When I try sending e-mail I get this error:

Error
A message in your outbox could no be sent using account "AAA". The server
did not recognize the the recipients or the server refuses to allow you to
send mail.

Explanation

Both computers, both using Entourage but with distinct e-mail addresses have
the same problem. I have checked, rechecked and checked once again that all
settings are correct and I can't get anywhere.

I tried checking the "SMTP requires authentication" option, but that made
matters worse.

Any help would be most welcome. I'm on OS X 10.3.5

Thanks!

Armin

Hi,
Usually this error occurs if the server is not able to relay messages or if
the permission to relay message if denied.

PLease check with your ISP about the permission to relay and check the
correct SMTP server name ( just in case if they have changed it recently)

Thanks for responding Saadani.

Unfortunately when I called (Earthlink), they stumbled through the call and
did not know what to do, by the fifth time they told me to make sure my
password was typed in correctly -- as their offered solution -- I hung up.

But I'll call back again and ask specifically about the permission to relay.

(If anybody else has any ideas, I'd still love to hear them!)

Thanks!

Armin.

Hi !!!
1) Set the SMTP server to smtpauth.earthlink.net
2) Turn on SMTP authentication

Waiting to know if it works

On the second thought
