Error (-8797)

H

Hernan Ferro

I received the following error all of the sudden:

"Could not ope that feature. An error has occured (-8797)."

Now I can't open the application, and all of my emai is locked. I have
rebuilted the database, but I get the same error on the new one. I have
also used the Remove Office application, re-installed the suite, and the
error persists. I created a new user, and was able to open the
application wich leads me to believe that the error is with the specific
database.

I am using Panther and Entourage10.1.4

Please help! I am desperate. [email protected]

The error is in your database. Did you quit Notifications and/or the
Microsoft Database daemon before rebuilding?

For more info on the daemon see:

<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/faq/daemon.html>

Did you try the complex rebuild?

For general maintenance, you should run Repair Permissions after installing
Apple software updates and for any applications that uses an installer.

To use Repair Permissions:

Open Disk Utility in your Applications/Utility folder.

Click on the First Aid tab and select Repair Permissions

Click on the icon for your boot volume.

Click the repair permissions button.

Don't run from CD as updates have a newer version of Repair Permissions.

Run Repair Permissions from the volume being repaired.

I switched fonts to Nueva Roman in the Gen prefs and got this -8797
error and I am totally locked out of my database. I followed procedures
to delete all Entourage preferences, quit Scheduling and do complex
rebuild, but still cannot access the program. It pulls up with blank
screen and all menu items greyed out. Is my program toast?

I got back into my program. I had to remove Nueva ODS font book from my
user library fonts.
Font is attached for anyone who wants to diagnose the reason for this
database error.

Thanks for letting us know the cause. It's not unusual for fonts to cause
serious problems. It may be a corrupt copy, or maybe it was never
configured to work with OS X.

Hi Paul,

It appears that this PS type 1? font is from ATM Deluxe fonts from OS9.
I dragged and dropped it into FontBook and it won't display or be
cataloged.

I'd guess that ATM (Adobe?) either has a revised version for OS X or will
confirm not to use the OS 9 version. You should let them know, just in case
they don't know already.

I think I've read on MacFixit that this is a known problem with FontBook
not displaying Type 1 fonts. It is also affecting Macromedia Studio, so
I think it may be a Panther related issue. I ran Font Doctor on the Font
and it comes out clean - no problems.
