error could not open macro storage

Hi all,
Trying to run Office 97 on a Windows xp pro machine. I get errors:
could not open macro storage in Word 97
when you click on visual basic editor in excel it clicks on then goes away
and doesn't open up.
I'm sure it is probably a permissions or registry setting but can't seem to
find anything on it. Any ideas or articles on this?

Yes, there are a couple of articles in the Microsoft Knowledge Base. I usually
search from the msdn home page (the search engine is a bit more "reasonable"
than what's generally on microsoft.com) Try searching the term: macro storage
