Error: "Entourage cannot connect to... Pulic Folders"

Error when accessing Exchange from a Mac Entourage X client via the public
internet:

"Entourage cannot connect to the Exchange Public Folders server."
"Please verify that the public folder settings are correct."

However, when accessing the public folders from Entourage on the same
computer using a the private local subnet, it works fine.

Tried the following settings on the Entourage Advanced Tab Public Servers
section:
68.100.100.30 (not the real public ip)
http://68.100.100.30 (not the real public ip)
https://68.100.100.30 (not the real public ip)
https://68.100.100.30/EXCHANGE (not the real public ip)
http://mail.domain.com/exchange (mail.domain.com resolves to the exchange
server)
https://mail.domain.com/exchange (mail.domain.com resolves to the exchange
server)

There is a hardware firewall between the internet and the internet network.
SSL port 443 is open (we can access OWA) abd Exchange has latest service
pack installed.
