Error Log

Hi everyone!

I have a user that created an "All Day Event" entry in her Calendar in
Entourage.
The little "e" on the dock bounces up and down to find out that in the error
log it states the following: "could not synchronize record: (calendar name)
to Exchange server: (user name)". When we double click to show info, this
info states the same as the error.
Can someone tell me what may be the problem?! And if so... Can someone tell
me how to stop the little "e" on the dock from bouncing. If I can get that
to at least stop, the rest she can deal with.

Thanks!

Marc,

I would be *** THRILLED *** if someone responded who understood what
was happening! I would be even more thrilled if this person could help
you (and me) solve this problem.

I'm using Entourage as an exchange server in OS X, and I get a string
of similar errors every five minutes or so. Sometimes I'm successful
at stopping this onslaught of errors by resetting synchronization.
When I'm successful at doing this, things stay quite for weeks.
However, resetting synchronization doesn't always work. Moreover (and
I'm not sure about this), this synchronization problem sometimes seems
to cause many of the items on my calendar to be duplicated. It's
really a mess.

I have no idea what the problem is. I'm not even sure whether the
problem is in Entourage, but I suspect it does.

PS

It would be helpful even if someone could say,

"This is a known problem that probably will /will not be fixed in the
next version of Office."

or

"It is /is not known that the could-not-synchronize-record error is
related to duplicating items in the calendar."

or

ANYTHING that would shed even a little light on these annoyances.

It makes me wonder why I'm even using Entourage.

As I'm sure you know, if anyone had that information, they wouldn't be
allowed to say so.

I think it's safe to say that significant improvements to Exchange
functionality must surely be coming in Entourage 2004. The minimal Exchange
functionality in 10.1.4 was quick, free update provided under pressures of
urgency only because users of OS X kept saying they didn't want to use
Outlook 2001 in Classic. It was rushed out and never pretended to be a full
replacement. On the other hand, don't expect Entourage 2004 to provide every
feature of Outlook - it's a different app. On the third hand (I have three),
I think it's safe to deduce that major bugs which have been reported by many
users will have been investigated and hopefully solved. It can't be too much
longer to wait to find out - the big Mac internet depots and other stores
are already pre-ordering Office 2004.

It makes me wonder why I'm even using Entourage.

Presumably because you want to keep your Mac and still use Exchange and want
to do it in an OS X-native app rather than in Classic? Do you know of an
alternative? Or because you don't like the fact that you can't use HTML in
Outlook 2001? If Entourage X really doesn't work as you'd like with
Exchange, why not use Outlook 2001 until Entourage 2004 comes out and see
how that is?
