When I reply to an e-mail, I have gotten this message on my husband's e-mail
which is on same service as me (charter.net) as well as when trying to
respond to a friend on hotmail.com. I recently had to reinstall Outlook as I
had hard drive problems and this has just started happening. Also, after
re-installing, I have checked for all updates since the software was
published. Both addresses are set up in my address book. I can send a new
e-mail to both but I can't reply to their e-mails.

Are you properly authenticating to your outgoing server? Are you sure the
addresses are correct? Perhaps these people have specified an incorrect
Reply-To address.

Up until I had to reinstall Outlook, I had no problem replying to either of
these e-mail addresses. My husband has not made any changes. So, it must be
something I did when reinstalling Outlook??? How do I authenticate to my
outgoing server?

Open your account properties and look at the "Outgoing Server" tab. Check
the box labeled "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication".
