Error message 'font is already installed' but it isn't

I am using MS Office Professional 97 and Outlook Express 6 with Windows XP
Professional. HP930C printer software is installed. Following a fatal
computer crash and reinstallation of XP, guided by Dell technicians, all
programmes no longer list fonts that were previously available. For example,
wide latin (latinwd.ttf) and brushscript (brushsci.ttf). I have these fonts
on a CD (MSFONTS in Value Pack on the MS Office CD) and have tried to install
them using the 'install new font' facility in control panel but get a message
"The Brush Script MT Italic (True Type) font is already installed". However
this font is not shown in the Font folder in Windows, i.e. it is not
installed. Copy and paste or dragging the fonts results in the same error
message. Using the Search facility produces no results for 'latin' or
'brush' or any derivative of these names anywhere on my computer.

Thanks for these two suggestions. I downloaded TweakUI and tried the font
folder repair function, but it has made no difference. The article describes
a different way of installing fonts but the end result and the error message
is still the same. Any more ideas?
