Error message in email

I am using Outlook in Office 2000. Email has been working
great but today I wanted to Cc someone and the following
message appeared:
"A messaging intereface has returned an unknown error. If
this persists, restart Outlook."

This occurs even when I try to change the To: addressee or
forward anything to someone that has not be automatically
created from clicking on an existing message. How can I
change this? Thanks.
