For both of you:

1. Make sure you've installed SP1 for Office 2007

2. Run Diagnostics. It's in Office Button | PPT Options | Resources |
Diagnostics

3. Make sure you have a default printer driver (one that PPT likes)
installed. To do so, please follow this procedure:

How to install a TEST printer driver
http://www.pptfaq.com/FAQ00952.htm

4. It could be an issue with an add-in. If you go to Office Button | PPT
Options | Add-ins, what's listed?

Echo S. You must be an angel! Thanks for ideas.

Reference your #4: (Never knew I had addins or what they are, or where they
came from, but) Thanks to your coaching, I found these 2 Active addins: "Send
to BlueTooth" and "Google Desktop Office Addin". I can do without both of
them!

Also have 4 Inactive addins: Presentation Notes, Off-Slide Content,
Invisible On-Slide Content, and Custom XML Data.

Reference your #3: Going to research that now.

Thanks. I will get back in a few minutes.

Echo S.

I have elevated you from Angel to god-like status. (Someone who comes out
of nowhere, cannot be seen, but solves problems promptly and clearly.)

I installed the 'proven' printer driver, slected it as default...and my
problem went away. Multiple times I closed PPT from large and small files,
and it worked perfectly without crash on closing.

I de-selected that test printer as a default and changed back to my REAL
default printer (HP PhotosmartC6180 All in One). And problem recurred.

So off I go to HP site to read up - after assuring myself that I did not
install this printer on a network. The price of a different printer would be
cheap compared to the issue this causes. Any recommendations for a small
home office all in one printer???

I'd buy you lunch or just hire you outright if I could get my hands on you!

Well, my printer is the problem for sure. I totally removed the HP
Photosmart and my "PPT crash on exit" problem went away - as per your advise.

Went to HP site, read all about incompatibilities, then downloaded and
installed the full (huge) version of their recommended software and drivers
for my type of Vista. Took a while, but new HP software and drivers loaded
and test printed fine.

Restarted PPT, shutdown...and CRASH...just as before.

So, I either live with it - or go buy a new printer. But at least I can
quit blaming it on Vista. But HP, Dell, and MS should have butts kicked for
not working out this kind of issue. I'd expect it if I was trying to save
money and buy off-brands, but with such big "Typical" name brands -
inexcusable.

Thanks again for your help. And if you want to recommend a new printer -
please respond.

Well, crud, that sucks. But that doesn't make your printer useless. It just
means you need to set something else as the default printer -- you can still
select your printer from the printer dropdown list in File | Print. (But
yeah, it does make the quick-print button kind of useless, I know.)

I have a little Canon M160 (or something like that) that I like -- it scans
and prints. It doesn't fax. I guess it all depends on what you need. What
does your HP PhotosmartC6180 All in One do that you really like? Maybe
others will have printers that they love that do the same?

I have elevated you from Angel to god-like status. (Someone who comes
out
of nowhere, cannot be seen, but solves problems promptly and clearly.)

I installed the 'proven' printer driver, slected it as default...and my
problem went away. Multiple times I closed PPT from large and small
files,
and it worked perfectly without crash on closing.

I de-selected that test printer as a default and changed back to my
REAL
default printer (HP PhotosmartC6180 All in One). And problem recurred.

So off I go to HP site to read up - after assuring myself that I did
not
install this printer on a network. The price of a different printer
would
be
cheap compared to the issue this causes. Any recommendations for a
small
home office all in one printer???

I'd buy you lunch or just hire you outright if I could get my hands on
you!

Echo S. You must be an angel! Thanks for ideas.

Reference your #4: (Never knew I had addins or what they are, or
where
they
came from, but) Thanks to your coaching, I found these 2 Active
addins:
"Send
to BlueTooth" and "Google Desktop Office Addin". I can do without
both
of
them!

Also have 4 Inactive addins: Presentation Notes, Off-Slide Content,
Invisible On-Slide Content, and Custom XML Data.

Reference your #3: Going to research that now.

Thanks. I will get back in a few minutes.

:

For both of you:

1. Make sure you've installed SP1 for Office 2007

2. Run Diagnostics. It's in Office Button | PPT Options | Resources
|
Diagnostics

3. Make sure you have a default printer driver (one that PPT likes)
installed. To do so, please follow this procedure:

How to install a TEST printer driver
http://www.pptfaq.com/FAQ00952.htm

4. It could be an issue with an add-in. If you go to Office Button |
PPT
Options | Add-ins, what's listed?

No. I missed that note from you.

I bought a Brothers MFC-885CW All-in-One. I had never been impressed by
them, but I am now. It was $229. Ink cartridges cheap. I installed the
full package from their CD and it works great! Fax, scan, print. It has a
cordless phone handset, so I uncluttered my desk some. It even connected to
my wireless LAN on the first attempt via thier setup wizzard. I could NEVER
get my 2 HP's to connect wirelessly (WLAN or bluetooth) with any of my 2
Dells or 2 Vaio computers.

Best of all I have no PPT crash on exit.

I hate work-arounds (like not keeping my printer set as a default). So I
took great pleasure in uninstalling EVERY HP component on my new Dell! I
will drop it at the local Goodwill (with tons of new ink cartridges) and take
a tax deduction. Good riddance.

I almost regret that my problem is now completely resolved and I no longer
have a need for your kind dialog and spot-on technical advise.

Thank You! Thank You! Thank You! Thank You! Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!

K

Kevin - we are not worthy -

I wanted to chime in here. Yes, this fixed the issue for me also.

I had a similar HP Officejet J6400 as my default printer. Since I'm not
always in the office, I usually keep something else as my default. I changed
to a free PDF creator. Now my PowerPoint doesn't crash when I exit.

I'm not sure why this solution does not come up when I used the automatic
search for solution feature.

Yet another vote for "god-like-ethernet-being" for Echo S! Such a simple
solution that it completely meets the requirement as elegant.
