Thanks for trying, but none of those entries are of any help. The
"deprecated" comments are a reminder to Entourage developers at MS that
those particular functions will be removed in a (much) later version of the
OS (perhaps OS 10.4 or 10.5 or later) so they should replace them in their
next application release. They know all about them.
If you're getting a crash at startup, either there's a corrupt message that
keeps trying to download at startup, or else your database is corrupt.
Chances are it's the former.
Go to /Users/[username]/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/ folder and remove
both the Entourage Preferences and com.microsoft.Entourage.prefs.plist files
you see there. (You may also have to remove the
com.microsoft.Entourage.plist file in /Users/[username]/Library/Preferences/
, but that's less likely. That may bring up a fresh new identity when you
open Entourage: if so, use Entourage/Switch Identities to switch back to
your usual one. So don't remove this file just yet.)
That will, among other prefs, reset your schedules so that Send & Receive
All doesn't run at startup. That will give you a chance to do this. Assuming
it's a POP account, go to:
Tools/Accounts/Mail/[likely account]/Edit
Click the Options tab and choose "Allow online Access" and click OK,
You'll now find an icon of your POP server in the Folder list. Click on it.
If the preview Pane is showing, immediately press command-\ or View/Preview
Pane to switch it off. Now, if your preferences are usually to download POP
messages (not leave on server) the corrupt message is going to be the oldest
one up there (sorted by Received column). If you do leave messages in the
server, it will be the oldest one with a jagged "incomplete" envelope icon
in Online Status column (not downloaded). Select it and delete it ("Remove
form Server at next connection".) If it looks like it's something that might
be important, drag it to your desktop first before deleting it. That will
make an .eml file. Do NOT double-click this : instead drag it onto TextEdit
or another text editor. You'll be able to read the message there.
Now you can do a Send & Receive All (command-K) and all should be well. If
it is, you can reset your schedules - and all your other preferences too.
If removing all prefs files still didn't solve the crashing, your database
is corrupt. Quit all Office apps, and hold down Option key when launching
Entourage. Choose Advanced Rebuild.
