Error reported when trying to make graphs and charts

I have a Microsoft Office 2000 standard on my computer.
Within the last 6 months, I began to encounter a problem
when I try to chart or graph some of the data that I
entered. An error window pops up stating that a problem
was encountered and "needs to close." I lose all unsaved
information. What do I need to do to correct this
problem so I can construct graphs and charts?
