Error trying to detect and repair in Office

After noticing that I couldn't get the Research option under Tools in
Outlook, I tried to Detect and Repair MS Office 2003. I inserted the Office
install disk as requested but I kept getting:
Error 1311, Source File not found. Verify that file exists and you can
access it.
D:\ZF561407.CAB
Tried searching and Microsoft
http://support.Microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;818234&spid=2488&sid=492 gives a
workaround: Create Administrative Installation Point. However, this seems to
refer to a networked installation and I have one computer.
Looked C.A.I.P. up but am no wiser.
I can't understand why it is looking for something on the disk that was
obviously not there when Office was first installed
Is there an idiot's guide or alternative fix for this?
Or should I try a complete uninstall/reinstall? Trouble is, if I get the
same error doing that, I'm really up the creek.
