Error when configuring Entorage X (10.1.5) for Exchange

Stephen Barrante

I just installed a clean version of Office X and updated it to 10.1.5. I
verified with the tech department that the exchange server meets all
the requirements listed on the support site. I launched Entourage X,
and setup a new Exchange account... using all the same information I
used to use in OS9 to configure MS Outlook.

Unfortunately once I save the account information I get an error:

"Error occured on the IMAP server, -3260"

and I can't get into my account. We tried alternate exchange server IP
addresses, by name and by IP. I pinged the server from my machine
and it shows up fine. I can still access my email through our web
interface (which I'm getting tired of)... but can't get Entourage to work.

Any suggestions?? Thanks.

Actually, I checked myself and could not find much details about this
specific issue. This page seems more relevant:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=824887

To summarize the KB:
WORKAROUND To work around this problem, verify that the Exchange account
settings are correct, that the network configuration is correct, and
that the Exchange server is operating correctly with all the required
services running.

Actually, most of the time I've seen this problem when the network was
using a "master" Exchange server to redirect the clients to a subserver.
Apparently, Entourage doesn't understand the redirection and fails to
connect properly (hence the error message even though the machine is
online and responds to pings) The only way out was to enter the name of
the subserver manually. In my case, I identified the prefix for the
subserver by looking at the infromation in Outlook 2001 but you can also
ask you net admin.
