Error with database repair

Can anyone tell me what my next course of action should be? I tried to
repair my Entourage database and in step 2 of 3 it stopped and told me that
it "encountered an unknown error (-5000) and could not continue."

Thoughts? I really cannot lose years of email but have no idea what to do
if I cannot repair the database.

Thanks,
Chris

You don't have it backed up?

Here's what the Entourage Help Page says about error -5000:
Error -5000

Messages with an attachment creates Error -5000

Attachments are stored in the Entourage Temp folder inside the Microsoft User
Data folder. This is where Entourage is trying to save the file before it
opens. Check the permissions on this folder.

Owner Access: Read Write
Group Access: Read only
Others: Read only
You can delete the Entourage Temp folder, and Entourage will create a new one
when launched.

Why yes I do but the backup has the same problem.

You don't have an answer to my question?

I deleted "Entourage Temp" and restarted with no luck. I change the
permissions from 755 to 644 as you recommended below with no luck either. I
thought that perhaps being a standard user may be in some way hindering the
database repair utility, however unlikely, so I changed myself to an
Administrator and still had no luck.

Rather than having to start over in a new Identity, you might be able to
salvage your data by doing a rewrite.

First make a duplicate of your Identity so that you have a fall back if
things go bad.

1. Export your data as an Entourage archive and select to delete the data
after exporting.

2. Import the data back into Entourage
