Error with SP2

Hi,
I received an error message that I needed to remove the Microsoft Database
Daemon from my Startup folder. Actually I have 2 there. What exactly are
they?? I can¹t seem to access my .mac mail account from Entourage either.
Actually, I did yesterday and never had a problem until today. But now I
can¹t. I can send, but I can¹t receive to the .mac e-mail. I get an
Authentication Error. Strange stuff. I can use my .mac mail from Mail in
OSX. Excel and Word seem to be working fine. Just Entourage and my .mac
mail account.
Thanks.

If you mouse-over them in the Startup Items window, you should see the
path...
It needs to be this one:
/ Macintosh HD:Applications:Microsoft Office 2004:Office:Microsoft Database
Daemon

Remove the other one and you should be OK.

If in doubt, remove them both. Office will reinstall the correct one next
time an office app starts up.

Most reports are indicating that a reboot also fixes this problem.

I installed the latest update. Got the message that said to remove the
daemon and restart, which I did. Then when I launched Entourage it said
that things had been moved and to either put Entourage back in the
original folder or reinstall. Entourage itself wouldn't launch.

Until I went into the trash, pulled out the 11.2.0 Database Daemon, and
put it back. Now it launches.

It also gave me an alert that said I was over due on a friend's
November birthday, from 2004. The calendar looks alright, but I'm wary
now.

Hope that helps.

The message would have told you to remove the daemon from your startup (or
login) items list, not to delete the actual file!

The daemon was updated in SP2, the login items list will have contained a
reference to the old daemon( which will have been removed during the
update). By trashing the daemon file itself, you trashed the new one, and
office apps can't work without the daemon. That is why you got the second
error.

Spurious reminders are a fairly common feature during a database rebuild
(which happens first time you restart entourage, since the database
structure has changed slightly). They are nothing to worry about.
