Excel 2000 exit when saving file

Running Office 2000 Pro SP3 - Excel application will exit upon saving a file.
When this happens the file is not saved. This happens when I use FILE -SAVE
or CTRL + S

This does not happen every time but happens often. I have uninstalled and
re-install Office.
