Excel datatype inport errors from transferspreadsheet

Hi,

I'm using the transferspreadsheet function to pull in an
excel sheet into access. When I do the import turns one
of the excel text fields into an access numeric field if
it does not see text early in the import. This then
causes import errors. Is there a way around this? Thanks!

PS - Access and Excel 2000 are being used.
PPS - I tried saving the spreadsheet as a .csv and
importing it in, but the same problem occurred...
