Excel Function Question > Populating Cells with Data

Is there an Excel function that will populate data in a cell (or set o
cells) other than the cell where the function resides? For example
something like...A1=POPULATE(B1,"John Smith"). The result would b
populating cell B1 with "John Smith".

Any help would be greatly appreciated

no chance to do this with formulas. Formulas can't change other cells
