excel match help

Hi All
What I'm stuck on is this, I have a table 5 columns by 5 rows and
want to specify which column to use and then match in in that column t
give me the row number of the match. The table is in the rang
A1-E6(including headings, so =MATCH(A10,A1:E1,0)gives me the colum
number that I want by inserting the column heading in cell A10. What
want then is to look down that column for a match with cell A12 to giv
the row number as answer,I can make index do everthing else I need t
do. I have tried match again but you have to say the range whic
changes based on the first answer. There is probably something reall
easy that I'm missing.
Thank

One way:

=MATCH(A12,OFFSET(A1,,MATCH(A10,A1:E1,0)-1,6),0)
