excel subtotals

I have a list of numbers.
I wish to enter a subtotal at various points.
I then wish to total the list excluding the subtotals.

what is the funtion code required for the subtotal cell.

i have tried the "data - subtotal" but it is too complex formy listings.

Guess what: it's called SUBTOTAL. Check out the information in Help for this
function. In addition to the range, you have to tell it what arithmetic to do,
as this function can average, count, sum, etc.
