Excel sumif formular

I am trying to use a sumif formular to calculate payments made to
unique list of clients based on a non unique list, for specific months
What other method is possible if sumif is not appropriate

use SUMPRODUCT or a pivot table for this. If you may provide some more
details about the layout of your spreadsheet it would be easier to give
