Excel To Powerpoint macro linking problem

I've got an excel spreadsheet running a simple macro to display a coundown
timer which changes every second. When I link the excel sheet to powerpoint
and run slideshow, the full screen display in slideshow updates in line with
the excel file for approx. 10 mins and then stops updating. The excel macro
is still running & updating ok in excel. Relaunching the slideshow allows
the update to commence. What's happening & how do I get a continuous update
in slideshow please ?
