Exchange and "Send as" a group or contact

Michael Köhler

Hello,

I want to send an email via exchange server as an another sender. The
exchange server is correct configured, but I can´t find a solution to send
over entourage. If I test it with Outlook (Windows) it works.

How can I choose a different sender from my exchange server without adding
any possible sender as a additional smtp entry?

Thanks,
Michael

You answered your own question. You will need to create an additional
account (Send Only if you like) for that alternate address.

Hi Adam,

Thanks for your reply. You know Outlook? If I start writing a new email in
outlook I can edit the "from" field with any characters and by sending this
email the exchange server will compare this entry with active directory and
look after the permissions. This *is* a good solution. Is there a comparable
solution in entourage to outlook?

If not: How can I add a active directory group or contact as an additional
(send only) account? A group or a contact has not password!? How should
entourage authentificate against the exchange server?

Greetings,
Michael

Yes, I know.

Well, there's no smooth solution. If your Exchange server has SMTP services
turned on (or if you have access to a third party SMTP server), you can
create a POP3 account with no Receiving information.

I have successfully sent a message from my Exchange account with a delegate
Exchange account's email address in the Account Setup. If you don't do this
very often, you could make the change there. Or there might be an
AppleScript solution to make the change more transparent.

I agree that setting up the first account as a delegate of the second
account makes sense.

Since Entourage doesn't allow dynamic editing of the From address the
same functionality simply doesn't exist as in Outlook.

If the Exchange Server will accept outbound mail via SMTP then Adam's
suggestion for a "send only account" would be a possible alternative.
That would just be a POP account in Entourage that's excluded from the
Send & Receive Schedule. The advanced sending options for the SMTP
settings may need to include the name/password for the person who's been
given permission to send.

I've never had to set up the second "send only account" within an
Exchange environment, so I can't guarantee anything.

Hope this helps!
