Exchange Calendar sync stops working

J

John O'Keefe

Hi, I have been able to successfully get the exchange feature of
Entourage to work --including syncing the calendar, only to have the
syncing stop working after the initial sucess. Reseting does not
help. Any ideas?

In fact the same thing happened to me, all my calendar events went missing.
Restarted entourage and presto back again. Strange.

Not exactly the same. My problem is that new events added to Entourage X do
not get copied to the exchange server even though all events in Entourage X
initially synced with the server --that is when I first installed the
Exchange update.

For a similar problem, I deleted my Exchange account in Entourage and
re-created. Sync came back to life and finally added my new events in my
calendar to the Exchange server...

Before you try Corentin's tip, make sure there is nothing in the Entourage
error log. It could just be some strange event that is stalling the sync
process. This is especially likely if contact sync is working fine.

Quite true. I had the problem for aver 48 hours and I knew the server
was behaving perfectly fine before I decided to do that.
The good thing is that all fodlers and messages are stores on the server
so re-setting the account brought everything back exactly as it was
before. This wasn't too much trouble.

I've had all sorts of problems with my calendar, including more holidays
than I could ever use in my whole life! Problems like meetings not showing
up in my calendar even though others who could see my calendar could see
them (so they were in the Exchange server, but not in my Entourage
calendar). Entourage freezing (that bloody beach ball!).

I now have things nice and stable, and all the above have disappeared.

I suggest you do the following:
1. Delete your exchange account under Tools/Accounts.
2. Turn off Office Notifications (if its on) under the Entourage Menu.
3. Quit out of Entourage.
4. Hold down the Option Key and start Entourage. Repair the database using
the first option. Quit out of Entourage after its completed.
5. Hold down the Option Key and start Entourage. Repair the database using
the second option - note you have to have repaired the database using the
first option before using the second option - i.e. Do step 4 before step 5,
don't skip step 4.
6. Create your Exchange Account. Note that you will have to click on all
sub-folders in your Inbox to get the messages to download to your local
database.

Having done this, I have found everything to be a lot more stable, and
everything synchs as it should. I had a couple of weird things happen
again, and simply repairing the database using step 4 and 5 fixed those as
well.

It also would not hurt you to Repair Permissions on your hard drive on a
regular basis, particularly after installing new software. If you don't
know how to do this, I suggest you use the Mac Help in the Finder under the
Help menu, searching for "repair permissions". Also learn how to repair
your disk (repairing your disk and repairing permissions is a bit like doing
a tune up on your computer occasionally - it benefits from it...!)

May all your problems be little ones!

Not true. you're usually advised to do Typical Rebuild first, but in fact in
merely compacts the database (removing deleted items and copying to a fresh
sector of your hard disk, removing fragmentation) and fixes mis-ordering of
lists, etc. Perhaps it fixes the occasional crash. For serious database
corruption - not opening, etc. - you could go straight to Advanced Rebuild.
if you're not sure, do a Typical first. Since most of the time most people
don't have the technical knowledge to be sure, that's why Typical first is
recommended. It wouldn't be good to have a large number of unnecessary
Advanced rebuilds. But when warranted, there's no technical requirement to
do a Typical first, in fact.
