Exchange hijacking my outgoing mail!

J

J.W.

Hi,

I work remotely and I am using Outlook 2003 for both my personal email and
my work email.

My personal email account is through pop3/smtp, while my work email is
through an Exchange server. The problem is that all email, personal and
work, is being sent through the Exchange server. I would rather not have my
personal messages being routed through my work's computers.

The settings appear to be correct -- my personal email account has the
proper pop3/smtp server information. Plus it is listed as the default email
account.

Previously, I suspected that it could be related to the VPN setup, as my web
traffic had been routed through the company's machine also, that is, until I
unchecked the 'Use default gateway on remote network'. That is unchecked,
but my outgoing email is still sent through the Exchange server.

Does anyone have an idea to correct this?

Regards,
J.W.

Install your personal mail in a non-exchange profile. When you want to work
remotely through your VPN, you will only have the Exchange profile. When you
want to send personal mail, close Outlook and restart with the Personal
profile.

Why can't you select the account to use for sending after you finish
composing the mail? On the toolbar, select the accounts button and select
your sending account from there.

Hello,

Thank you for the reply.

For convenience sake, I would rather not close Outlook. I have no set hours
for working remotely, so it would be very inconvenient to switch profiles.

This is what is so puzzling. The default account is my personal email
account. I've experimented with the "send using", but in all cases, it
still sends through the exchange server. Even my personal mail drafts are
saved on the Exchange server -- replies to mail sent to my personal
accounts.
