Exchange server - Entourage doesn't get all emails

John Cleveland

Running Entourage 2004 on OS X (10.3.8) with an Exchange 2000 server.

Our admin has enabled a feature for Outlook Web Access that prevents viewing
messages with certain characters in the subject line (ampersands, 3 periods
in a row, etc.) to prevent hacking problems, which is understandable.

However, this feature also prevents Entourage from downloading any emails
with the offending characters in the subject.

I don't have the root certificate installed and get the message about it at
startup... Would installing that fix the other problem? If not, is there
some other workaround anyone knows about?

Any help is much appreciated - I'm sick of launching Classic and running
Outlook 2001 to read the unviewable messages!

Thanks.

I doubts ti... It wouls still access the e-mails through OWA. I really
don;t see what workaround you could use :-(

The only work around is to not have those special characters in the subject
line.

I really hope MS puts MAPI support into Entourage.....

You'll see Outlook switch to WebDAV sooner than you'll see MAPI in
Entourage. Entourage will never have MAPI support. Supposedly, MAPI is on
the way out as a protocol, tied together with bits of string. But there's
such an investment in it on the Windows side, it seems to be taking its time
dying. As far as I know, it was largely the desire/need to stay away from
MAPI on the Mac that resulted in Entourage being created from scratch to
begin with rather than attempting to port Outlook over to the Mac for
anything but corporate Exchange users needing a make-do.

Well thats going to suck is you have followed best practice and used the
IISLockdown tool to harden your OWA IIS server. Whats the point then of
using those hardening tools it soon will break clients with malformed
subject lines?

And I really hope they aleast make some major improvements to the Entourage
interface as searching an Exchange GAL sucks, let alone if you have
configured other address lists. Calendars are not the easiest to use, but
thats related back to the inability to search the GAL. And there been a few
interesting tidbit on www.macwindows.com about Entourage mysteriously
loosing email and calendar items....my guess due to some synch issues.

I would rather have a MAPI ver of Entourage than a WEBDav ver of it.
