Exchange Support

Wouldn't it have been easier to just make Entourage fully compatible
with Exchange server rather than having to deal with all these
problems? Outlook 8.2.2 is the perfect example... it runs fine on OS9
- yeah, its missing some features like voting buttons, but the
calendar works, and it syncs just fine.

I just don't get it... is it that difficult for OSX? Mail in Panther
has better exchange support.

I was terribly excited about the update - and the opportunity to dump
OS9 forever - I had a PAR ready to buy 20 copies for the
organization... unfortunately, after downloading the update I realized
this is faux support with SMTP? huh? No real address book syncing?
huh? No sale.

Why not just re-work 8.2.2 as an OSX app? Yeah, its a lot of work -
but you'd gain something you're sorely missing... respect.

As far as answeing the questions regarding Exchange support here, it
sure would have been easier ;-))) Neverfrtheless, I fear that re-writing
all the code for full Exchange support is not that trivial... They would
have done it otherwise.

Indeed, but carbonizing the application could be a challenge.

:-> Interesting... I though any information regarding Panther was
covered by an NDA with Apple :->>>

It uses IMAP. SMTP is for sending e-mail.

I sounds like a good idea and I'm quite sure they would have done it if
it had been so simple.

that is interesting - you better tell CNET
(http://news.com.com/2100-1045_3-5059653.html),
ZDNET (http://news.zdnet.co.uk/software/mac/0,39020393,39115491,00.htm),
and the 30 other
news sites that have posted about it in the last 4 months.

uh, yeah - that's what i said -- it uses SMTP. i realize it uses
IMAP,
as SMTP is for sending mail only.

i have a feeling there's more to it than that... but that's a topic
for another discussion.

Hi,

It still was not official. I've seen a bunch of information about 10.3
on the web but it mostly comes from leakers. Everybody who had access to
early builds of 10.3 should have signed an NDA that clearly forbids to
discuss anything not already officially announced by Apple with anyone.

uh, yeah - that's what i said -- it uses SMTP. i realize it uses
IMAP,
as SMTP is for sending mail only.

I'm not folowing you then... What's the problem with SMTP suport in
Entourage ??? It works just fine for me... Do you mean you wanted to be
able to send mail through DAV ??? I did not get that from your previous
post and I'm not quite sure I see the advantages then :-\

i have a feeling there's more to it than that... but that's a topic
for another discussion.

Yeah, and I fear I would not have the answer anyway unfortunately :-\

Your feeling is mistaken. Carbonizing Outlook 2001 would have been a
nightmare. And then when you're left, you still have two OS X mail apps from
Microsoft that don't talk to one another.
