Exclamation Point in Input Mask

My understanding when using the ! in your input mask,
will forces the data to be entered from the right.
However, I've set up my phone input mask as !\(999") "000
\-0000 and when I enter the data it still entering from
the left. (555) 121-2 and an error is received.

Any suggestions?
