Export to Excel - Can't update. Database or object is read-only

Preparatory to merging two old 97 Access databases, (prior to moving them up
to 2002), I am updating ID's using excel. I have exported and re imported
several tables with no problems at all except one particular table where I
get the message Can't update. Database or object is read-only. (Error 3027)

I have checked the Jet Error help solutions to no avail. The database isn't
read only. The table doesn't appear to have a read only property (and none
of the other tables give this problem).

any ideas most gratefully received.
