Exporting contacts with categories to Excel

I would like to export contacts in certain categories into Excel. I have
tried Entourage export but tab delimited only takes the whole directory and
no field for Category to then filter with afterwards.

Alternatively I can export according to category but this goes to a .rge
file which I cannot convert to Excel.

I have downloaded app Address Book Exporter, but this determines groups and
I don't' know how to get it to recognise a category as a group.
