I have tried to export my entourage and follow all the instructions but half way through it tells me that microsoft entourage has encountered a problem and needs to close - hence not finishing my backup.

I have tried numerous times and always the same result.

Sounds like your database is corrupt or something.

Exactly which export did you try? You can view several options here:

<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/database/backup.html>

Often when one type fails, you can try another and get your data out.
Sometimes if rebuilding fails, you can export as Entourage archive (.rge),
delete all then re-import into the same Identity and that will clear the
corruption. If not, you are will on your way to setting up your new
Identity.
