External Access to GAB

Hi All,

Not sure whether to post this in the Exchange groups or Entourage
Groups. Here it goes anyway.

Does anyone know how to enable external secure LDAP access through an
Exchange 2003 SP2 front-end server to Entourage 2004 clients? This is
to provide lookups to the Global Address Book. Mail works fine
through OWA. But, the only way we found to provide address book
lookups has been through 3rd party apps, and they need to be run as a
separate application outside of Entourage.

We'd like to avoid 3rd party apps and leverage the built-in
capabilities of Exchange.

Thanks.

Entourage can use AppleScript to do simple GAL lookups via Outlook Web
Access (OWA) connections. Have a look at my script here
<http://entourage.mvps.org/exchange/exchangelookups.html>.

You're free to modify it for your own company's use or use it as is.

Hope this helps!

I am waiting to get my hands on a MAC to test this out. In the
meantime, does anyone know of a way to do this without 3rd party apps,
scripts, etc.??

Technically, the script is utilizing what's built in to Entourage.
Entourage just doesn't have a GUI for simple GAL lookups through OWA.

The only way to accomplish any lookup without third party applications
would be to publicly share your LDAP server, which is not advisable.

Hope this helps!

Will this feature be available in the near future? I am VERY upset that I cannot do lookups from the GAL. You guys really missed the boat on this one. This seems like such a basic feature, how could you not put this in?

This feature is available right now. The AppleScript I mentioned earlier
only takes advantage of what's built into Entourage. Microsoft just
hasn't put a GUI on it.

Also, please keep in mind that these newsgroups are peer-to-peer groups.
You're talking to other users, not Microsoft. You can send Microsoft
feedback using the Help --> Send Feedback tool in any Office application
or through their website.
