Extra word-spaces in my mails

This may be an old topic, but for years I have noticed (and been
irritated) about how extra word-spaces are added in mails going out
from my Entourage. I thought for some time it was a keyboard issue, but
no. Mailing back and forth actually adds extra spaces down through the
old mails attached. I use Mac OSX Tiger, Office 2004 which I keep
updated.
Any others with the same problem?

Yes. Though not recently. I *think* that switching on ³HTML formatting²
fixed it.

Same here - I often manually re-wrap my emails and have thought when
they come back to me replied, that these extra spaces were from that,
but then started testing it and found that the extra spaces are included
re-wrap or not! It also seems to be random here and I cannot 'force' it
to happen.

Hey Juniper, I've been on vacation so I haven't checked for responses
until now. But I don't know how to deal with this problem or whom to
ask for support. My mails look strange with the extra spaces and now I
hear I'm not the only one... problem is I can't really understand how
Entourage can possibly add random spaces that is not there in the
original text. How should we approach this issue? Any suggestions?

Are your e-mails HTML e-mails or plain-text?

It is apparently a bug in Entourage's HTML rendering that causes extra
spaces sometimes. For example, <html><body><p> Foo</p></body></html> should
eat the space in front of "Foo", but won't if displayed in Entourage. In
other cases where the HTML already has whitespace inbetween character data,
and additional whitespace isn't consumed.

I'm currently researching to see whether it's already been posted or not,
but if not, I'll post it.

Hello Nathan,

I always write my mails in HTML using Verdana 14 - previously I used
Myriad as font, but the font doesn't seem to have any importance.

I use my Entourage and write my mails as any other person in the world
I guess, so it is really strange that these extra spaces keep appearing
in absolute random places. Not connected to end of period, punctuation,
certain letters, at least as I can see it.

But the result is that my mails look sloppy and messy and written in a
hurry. Being a graphic designer I have an extra sensor in my eye for
extra spaces...

How to address this issue to Microsoft you think?

Do these spaces occur in e-mails that you have sent? Or in replies by some
other HTML-enabled e-mail client (even if you're being quoted in those
replies)? Outlook, for example, sends HTML that Entourage will (incorrectly)
interpret as having multiple spaces. I was under the impression that
pure-Entourage e-mail threads would not have the issue.
