Figured it out. Reading the rant is optional.

Pretty sloppy all around on my part. I found the preference in the accounts
area and set this address up.

Hope I spared someone the trouble of replying to the first one.

I guess Sunday is as good a day as any to look foolish.

No you didn't. You should have replied to your own message in the same
thread. That way those of us who read newsgroups threaded would have seen
your second message before replying themselves, and would simply have
congratulated you.

Not foolish - it's not so simple to figure out the spoof email account
scheme. But I really would recommend replying in the same thread, same
subject. That would help everyone.

Thanks. And sorry I didn¹t do the right thing by posting the follow-up.

I actually went out of my way to put it in a second message figuring you
would see the headline before spending time trying to be helpful to the
other posting.

I¹ve been on bulletin boards for centuries and know about maintaining
threads (and topic creep). I just don¹t quite have this figured out. For one
thing, I haven¹t figured out how I want to sort messages to be able to make
the most sense of postings. I think now that I¹ve got a bit more used to
things I¹ll probably group by topic.

Does that sound right?

It's right for me, since so many people come here including people answering
questions. I don't want to repeat something others have already said
(especially because I'm a slow typist), and if I disagree with someone or
add a tweak it's better that I read the earlier comment and respond to that.

In Entourage 2004 you can now do custom threading ("Arrange By/Show in
Groups/Custom") in the new 3-column view, so I can now even group by
Subject, but sort the groups by Sent as well as sort within Groups by Sent.
That means I can read the topics in the chronological order in which the
first message - or first unread message, as I prefer - appeared, and
chronologically within. In Entourage X I had to read topics alphabetically
(and chronologically within topics), although even that was OK for this
purpose. It's better in 2004, though.
