files locks up on virus scan

How do I open files when it locks up on virus scan process of opening the
file. I have set the virus scan setting at its lowest position

Microsoft Excel does not come with a virus scanning function
built in, so you should direct your question to the unnamed maker
of your antivirus software. If you're using Symantec/Norton
AntiVirus, try disabling the Office Plugin that comes with it as
described in http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=329820 "How to
use Office programs with the Norton AntiVirus Office plug-in".
