filter guestbook to block URLs?

Yarrielle

Hello,

I have a problem. A guestbook that I run is getting hit 20 times a day at
least by spammers. All I need is some way to filter out any post with
http:// in it, but Front Page help doesn't seem to know what I'm talking
about.

Can anyone here give me a clue, please?

Yarrielle

Sorry. Nothing you can do with the FP guest book.

you have to use something more powerful like ASP for your guestbook.
Then there are things you can do progamatically to help stop the spammers.

Like not allowing the same IP to post more than once in a row..

and other tricks

Thank you, though I can't believe Microsoft would leave such an important
feature out of their own programming.I think I'll write an email. In the
meantime, I will look for a simple ASP script that will help me out with
this. Although, so often they require you to have access to the actual
physical server, which I don't, so I'll have to see.

Thanks so much for the time in answering, both of you. Have a great day. :)

It is unusual for ASP scripts to require physical access to the
server. If you are hosted on Unix a PHP or Perl/CGI solution may be
more suitable.

In the meantime, if your guestbook is named guestbook.htm, try
renaming it with no reference to guest or book in the filename or link
to it. This may deter the automatic bots, but will not affect manual
additions.

Ronx, that is an excellent idea, thanks! I'm still looking into a good
guestbook that has the features I need, but in the meantime I'm going to
rename that file. It will probably stop most of them.
