find month

given 9/30/2004, i would like "sep". I am stumped. Any
help is greatly appreciated.

If the date is in cell A2, enter the following formula in another cell:

=TEXT(A2,"mmm")

If that date is in A1, and you sant to see Sep in another cell,

use the formula =A1 and format as "mmm"
or use the formula =TEXT(A1,"mmm")
