Find-Replace

Not sure this would fall under "new user" but it seemed
closest.

I am using Word 97 but can transport to 2000 if needed.

What I need to do is take a very long document that has a
few THOUSAND ;'s in it and replace every one of them with
a carriage return. Any way to easily do this?

If it has to be VBA I can swallow that if needed.

Also, since someone who knows how to do the above will
likely know how to do this as well. Is there an easy way
to COUNT the occurances of a single char?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Rick

choose edit / replace
in the find what box type
;
in the replace with box type
^p
(lower case) .. .all sorts of things can be found by clicking on the "more"
button & then clicking the "special" button.

choose replace all (note, i've never done this on a few thousand anythings
but i can't see why it wouldn't work - but please take a copy of your file
before progressing)

and an easy way to count the occurrances of a single character
edit replace it with itself & word will tell you how many it replaced

And it's even easier to invoke if you remember that the keyboard shortcut is
Ctrl+H.
