Finding Source of Emails Without Opening Them

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)

I am trying to develop a Safe Domain list.
I know that I can I view the email sources through checking: Message, Source . Does this activate the email directly so that the sender has now access to my computer, or is this a safe way to check who it is from without actually ever opening it? This way I can check to see if they should be added to my Safe list..... thanks

As far as I know, that method is safe, provided you disable the preview pane
first (View>Preview Pane>None). However, Entourage 2008 already has a
built-in mechanism that prevents it from displaying HTML messages (those
messages that could be dangerous, or lead to more junk mail) unless you
explicitly tell it to by clicking the Display Pictures text in the yellow
strip that shows up below the header in the preview pane. So previewing or
opening messages should still be safe if you do not click on the Display
Pictures text.
