fine tuning cursor movement

Tunde

In making newsletters in Publisher 2002 (I'm using XP
Home version), I use text boxes, pictures boxes and
clipart with various lines, borders, etc. In trying to
align boxes by resizing--clicking on the little circle
until I get the resize icon and then dragging the
resulting 'cross'--,I'm having trouble with the cursor
(cross) going not at all or too much. Is there a way to
fine tune the cursor (cross)so it goes in finer increments
so that I can get my boxes, lines to match up much more
perfectly? Thanks for any help.

Tunde,

I am hoping others might chime in with their experience
here, but I recommend the following:

1. Zoom in or out on the object you are attempting to
move which changes the "fine tuning" of movements.

2. Nudge an object. To nudge an object, just select the
object in question and use your right/left/up/down arrow
keys. You can adjust the precise nudge measurements by
going to Tools>Options>Edit and change the nudge option
(default is .13")

3. If nudging when cursor is inside a text box, hold down
the control key with the left/right/up/down arrows to
nudge.

4. Use precise placement or movement by using Position on
Page: Right-click the object or grouped objects. On the
shortcut menu, click Format <object type>. In the Format
<object type> dialog box, click the Layout tab. Under
Position on page, enter the positive measurements for the
horizontal and vertical placement of the object or object
group. Click OK.

5. Use the measurement toolbar. Select the object, then
go to View>Toolbars>Measurement toolbar and enter your
placement settings.

Thanks, Brian...I knew about nudging and since I'm pretty
bad with measurements, was hoping there was a "manual" way
of adjusting fine tuning of movements, rather than me
having to set inches and increments there off. The zoom
feature sounds much more like my cup of tea!

Also try zooming in and unchecking the options in Arrange > Snap
