Flooded With Email (Windows Newest Network Update)

R

Richard Radke

Does Microsoft have an email address where one can report things like below?

I am getting flooded with email from, MS Corporation Partner
<[email protected]> about the latest Windows Network
Update.

I have received at least 40 today. Each one has three attachments, two
Internet Explorer documents, one 4k and one 1k plus one pack3346.exe.

I know this is about the Windoz version. I have a Dell I use only for
viewing web site I design and I also do consulting and troubleshooting for
Windows so I have subscribe to the Windows Newsletters. I receive all my
mail with my Mac.

I am going to post this on the Windows forum.

I use a Mac 99.99 percent of the time. Windows XP and the Dell are ok but
they are not a Mac. Just kidding

This is the email.

Help!

The Mac OSX Entourage Junk Mail filter has trapped over 300 messages this
morning all related to a Microsoft patch. Help! How can I stop the flood
of message from someone using the Microsoft name?

I am not sure but I think the .exe file attached to each message may contain
a Windows virus and it may have attacked the Mac OSX Entourage causing it to
relay the message to others. The reason I feel ENT is relaying messages is
I am now getting message from more than one ISP saying:

³I'm sorry to have to inform you that the message returned below could not
be delivered to the following addresses:²

How do I command Entourage from relaying the Microsoft update virus?

Yes, this is the latest little worm from the dark side. I¹ve been getting
hundreds of the little darlings.

Don¹t worry though, your mac can¹t be infected and you won¹t be covertly
sending them out. When you get bounces back saying your mail couldn¹t be
delivered, it¹s because somebody's infected windows machine has your email
address in their address book or messages cache, and the worm (a trojan,
truthfully) has picked it at random to use as the originator.

It¹s rather difficult to filter on name or content, since the body, subject
and attachment name all change at random. I just filter all messages
containing an .exe, .scr, .pif & .ini attachment to a safe folder, then bin
them once a week or so.

It¹s not from MS. That¹s the latest virus doing the rounds several of them
have been posted to this NewsGroup as well (I¹ve received hundreds of the
little blighters).

Just delete them. They won¹t harm your mac. But please don¹t try to run the
attachment on your Dell!

Thanks Barry, I had over 325 messages this morning and was getting worried.
This must be causing the PC community fits. Hopefully the flood will stop
soon.

I wonder if changing your email address would terminate the worm?!?!? ;-)

Thanks. I like that better than my rule and I will add those options to my
rule. What a pain those are.
