Font has changed into symbols - dont know why - help

My daughter was typing coursework in one room Ok. Moved to another room and
her laptop then started using symbols and things rather than words. She
hasnt got a clue whats wrong - any ideas?? Coursework deadlines and now
panicking

1st, reboot, and then see if the problem still exists.
